Perdido Key, Florida is an unincorporated community just east of Orange Beach, Alabama and less than one hour away from Pensacola, Florida. This coastal community is a great favorite with those looking for a second home in one of the Gulf-front condos or vacationers who visit, drawn to the sugar-white sand beaches the area is known for. There are a number of golf courses in this area of Escambia County, Florida that are a popular attraction for many residents and guests. There are also numerous protected beaches (part of the Gulf Island National Seashore) around the Perdido Key area, including Johnson Beach.
Perdido Key’s main attraction is the Flora-Bama Lounge & Oyster Bar. Considered one of the last great roadhouses in the United States, the Flora-Bama is a must-see for visitors to Northwest Florida and the Alabama Gulf Coast. Flora-Bama hosts a number of events that benefit local organizations, but their most famous is the annual Mullet Toss, in which participants have a weekend-long competition to see who can throw a dead mullet the farthest over the Florida/Alabama state line.
